Originally from Porthmadog, Elfyn has lived in Cardiff for a number of years but the innate influence of Eifionydd comes from deep within his subconscious as he works instinctively on his striking artworks. While abstract in nature, landscape elements come to the fore through gestural layers of paint in work that is equally powerful and tender.

 

Surfaces are layered with paint that overflows, dripping. Congested, thick impasto paint has been pushed and forced to create a painting, which is also an object of desire. These paintings are layered time after time until the upper layer explodes and transforms from its volcanic creation into a vivid landscape. These are eruptions of colour and beauty intended to transfix the viewer.

 

Over the course of his 25 year career he has won numerous awards and prizes for his paintings including the Gold Medal for Fine Art in the National Eisteddfod in 2009, and the prestigious Welsh Artist of the Year award in 2010. He has also recently been elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy.

 

We have worked with Elfyn since the 2008 National Eisteddfod, building a friendship and partnership that has resulted in collaboration across all of his marketing, photography and promotional literature. Elfyn is very ‘hands-on’ with self-promotion and marketing his ‘brand’, seeing it as an extension of himself and his artwork. We work together with Elfyn to design and curate each element of his ‘brand’ - from brochures to art cards, private view and gallery invites to stationery, photography and print management.

 

With collaboration in mind, every design detail is explored.
